CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Schools across the nation are questioning if they can do more about security following the shooting deaths of nine people at an Oregon community college.
In Wyoming, the University of Wyoming and the state's seven community colleges each have adopted emergency plans that include "active shooter" scenarios.
UW holds annual drills, and it routinely updates its own emergency response plan.
The campus police force at UW, the state's only public, four-year university, also conducts joint training with the Laramie Police Department.
There have been no campus shootings at UW in recent memory, but in 2012, a Casper College instructor was killed by his son with an arrow in front of students on campus. The son then stabbed himself to death.
