LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — A newly released report says the number of forcible sex offenses reported on the University of Kansas campus has gone up for a second straight year.

There were 24 forcible sex offenses reported on the campus in 2014, according to the university's Clery Act Annual Security Report. That's up from 13 reported offenses in 2013, and three reported in 2012, the Lawrence Journal-World (http://bit.ly/1VEldyP ) reports.

Capt. James Anguiano with the university's Office of Public Safety said the increase in reported offenses doesn't necessarily mean it's happening more often, but rather that more incidents are being reported.

"We know the number is low because a lot of people do not want to report this type of crime," Anguiano said, "but the numbers increasing show the positive."

The university's report said there were eight forcible sex offenses reported off campus at university-affiliated locations in 2014. That total is up from two such reported offenses in 2013 and 2012.

The Clery Act requires universities to release data on crimes reported on or near campus. The University of Kansas' report for 2014 was released Oct. 1.
