SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — San Quentin State Prison is allowing visitors to return and regular showers to resume as it deals with a respiratory illness among inmates.
State corrections department officials said Thursday that the general population has received showers, and will be allowed visitors again starting this weekend.
The prison has confirmed that seven inmates have Legionnaires' disease, and some 95 are under observation for symptoms of the respiratory illness. There are no confirmed cases among staff members.
Corrections officials say full kitchen service will resume next week. For now prisoners are receiving one hot meal and two cold meals per day.
Officials have yet to determine the source of the outbreak.
