SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — An activist group that backed the court fight overturning Utah's ban on same-sex marriage is applying to sponsor a Scouting troop after the Boy Scouts of America lifted its ban on gay adult leaders.

Mark Lawrence of Restore Our Humanity says his organization is working on an application for a troop charter and hopes to get it approved by the Scouts this fall.

Lawrence says the troop will be open to all Scouts and leaders.

Restore Our Humanity found lawyers and gay couples to serve as plaintiffs in the lawsuit that overturned Utah's ban on same-sex marriage in 2013.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Utah's appeal in the case last year, legalizing same-sex marriage in the state.
