PLYMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Plymouth State University's 15th president is getting to work.

Donald Birx, whose hiring was announced in May, takes office on Friday.

He came to Plymouth from Pennsylvania State University's Behrend College, where he served as chancellor. Before that, Birx was vice chancellor and vice president for research for the University of Houston System. He has degrees in engineering physics, electrical engineering and finance.

Birx succeeds Sara Jayne Steen, who had been president since 2006.
