COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Allen University has created a scholarship fund to honor three alumni who were shot and killed last month at a Charleston church.

The school announced the scholarships for Daniel Lee Simmons Jr., state Sen. Clementa Pinckney and Tywanza Sanders.

Pinckney was the pastor at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he and eight others were shot and killed on June 17.

A statement from the school says the scholarship fund will help Allen University to continue the legacy of developing leaders.
