ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — The University of Michigan says it's on schedule to finish a $115 million renovation of West Quad this month, with beds for 1,000 students opening for the fall semester.
University spokeswoman Kim Broekhuizen tells The Ann Arbor News (http://bit.ly/1KEpmg2 ) that the completion of the remake of the 80-year-old dorm will bring a net increase of 500 beds for undergraduates. That's because some units at the Northwood Community Apartments on the school's North Campus in Ann Arbor will revert to graduate student use.
West Quad is across the street from South Quad, which underwent a renovation last year. South Quad will provide food service for residents of West Quad, making room for more common areas at West Quad.
The renovations are part of a decade-long plan to upgrade dorms at Michigan.
