Rhode Island schools to work with California charter school group on teaching with technology

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — Two Rhode Island schools will work with a California-based charter school company on using technology in their classrooms.

The Providence Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1dElTPT) Blackstone Valley Prep High School and Pawtucket Learning Academy will be working on teacher training with Summit Public Charter Schools. Summit will send its staff to Rhode Island for two weeks this fall for the training project.

Katelyn Silva is a spokeswoman for the Rhode Island Mayoral Academies charter school group that includes Blackstone Valley Prep. She says the local schools will work together to build on the training with professional development and workshops.

The program will help teachers work with students on projects that seek solutions to real-world problems and use computers every day to research and collaborate.

Blackstone Valley Prep High School is part of a network of mayoral charter schools with more than 1,000 students. Pawtucket Learning Academy is a traditional district school.
