SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake City fire officials say they're investigating whether two fires at University of Utah fraternity houses were intentionally set early Friday.

Fire department spokesman Jasen Asay says investigators believe they detected a possible accelerant near both fires but are awaiting lab test results. Investigators suspect the fires are connected.

Asay says the first fire broke out in a game room on the third floor of a fraternity house near 1400 East and 100 South around 4 a.m. About 15 minutes later, crews were called to a second fraternity house about 500 feet away where two small fires were burning in a basement laundry room.

No injuries were reported at either house.

Officials have not yet estimated the cost of the damage but it was limited to a single room in each house.
