RENO, Nev. (AP) — The first confirmed case of bat rabies in the state this year has been recorded in northwestern Nevada's Washoe County.
KRNV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1J8inv7) the Nevada Department of Agriculture's Animal Disease Laboratory confirms anywhere from six to 20 bats test positive for the disease each year between the months of May and October.
State Veterinarian Michael Greenlee says people should contact agencies like a local animal control office or health department to report pet or human exposure to bats.
Rabies can be fatal in humans once symptoms start to show.
