COPPERHILL, Tenn. (AP) — About 100 people gathered in a southeastern Tennessee town to release balloons in memory of two area students who committed suicide.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/1JNcthZ ) reports that relatives and friends of the two students say they were bullied at school.
The newspaper reports that a girl who was days away from turning 14 took her own life recently.
Her death came 71 days after an 18-year-old boy who was months away from his graduation killed himself.
Alumni and parents say bullying has been a problem for years at Copper Basin High School.
Polk County schools Superintendent James Jones acknowledges there's some bullying at the school, but says he doesn't think it's worse than at other schools. He says any report of bullying made to school administrators is taken seriously and investigated.
