NORTH LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Officials have identified a rock climber who died after falling 80 feet in northern Utah's Green Canyon near Logan.

Cache County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Matt Bilodeau identified the climber Friday as 23-year-old Matthew Del Grosso, a Utah State University student from Maryland.

Bilodeau says the young man's body has been sent to the state medical examiner, who will determine the cause of death.

Del Grosso was climbing with three others when he fell Thursday afternoon.

Bilodeau says Del Grosso had a severe head injury and went into cardiac arrest as the paramedics were working on him.

A helicopter was initially called, but it was canceled because of severe lightning and heavy rain in the area.

Lighting temporarily delayed rescue team members as they tried to bring Del Grosso's body off the mountain.
