DANBURY, Conn. (AP) — Western Connecticut State University has a new president.

The Board of Regents for Higher Education approved the appointment of John Clark on Thursday. He will assume office July 1 and make a $260,000 starting salary.

Clark for the past six years has led the Office of Business and Industry Relations and the Center for Student Entrepreneurship for the City University of New York. He also worked 18 years on Wall Street in public finance and municipal bond research.

He takes over for James Schmotter who has announced his retirement.

Clark told the Connecticut Post (http://bit.ly/1PAsVa3 ) that when he interviewed for the position last month he "immediately felt this warm and caring spirit."
