SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say an FBI agent's sniper rifle was recently stolen from his car in a hotel parking lot.

Salt Lake City police Detective Greg Wilking says the theft occurred at a hotel near the airport the night of March 27 in what he called a brazen crime.

Wilking says investigators believe thieves broke a rear window in the agent's car and attached a rope to a cable that secured a vault where the rifle was stored. He says the thieves then tied the rope to their own car and accelerated, yanking the rifle out of the car.

The door frame was also broken in a car that belongs to the FBI.

Police don't have any suspects and haven't recovered the weapon.

The FBI declined to comment.
