DANBURY, Conn. (AP) — A Danbury High School science teacher appeared briefly in court on charges that she sexually assaulted one of her students.

According to an arrest report, 24-year-old-year-old Kayla Mooney was charged March 31 after an investigation into a complaint she made to school officials that she was being harassed by the boy's girlfriend.

Police say the boy involved told them about the sexual relationship and they confirmed parts of his story after obtaining emails between him and Mooney. Mooney was placed on leave in February.

The News-Times reports that Mooney appeared Monday in Danbury Superior Court, but her arraignment on charges of second-degree sexual assault and distributing alcohol to a minor was postponed after her attorney said he had requested evidence from prosecutors.

Mooney has not commented on the allegations.
