KENT, Wash. (AP) — Authorities in the south Seattle suburb of Kent say a high school senior has died of injuries he suffered while "car surfing" or riding on the hood of a car in the parking lot of his school.
KING-TV reports that a Kent School District official said Lupo Benson died Wednesday. He was injured Tuesday afternoon at Kent-Meridian High School.
Police say he was thrown from the vehicle when it made a sharp turn. Detective Melanie Robinson said Wednesday it's unclear how fast the driver was going.
District spokesman Chris Loftis described Benson to KING as very popular and "a loving kid."
Robinson says the King County prosecutor's office has asked to review the police investigation to determine whether charges will be filed. The driver was not immediately identified.
