BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho Senate panel has killed legislation that would have allowed the state to enter into an interstate compact to pursue management of federal lands.
The Senate Resources and Environment Committee spiked the proposal in a voice vote on Tuesday, where only three Republican lawmakers were recorded as supporting Idaho entering into the compact.
Republican Sen. Dean Cameron from Rupert says the bill created too many unanswered questions regarding how much Idaho would have to pay to participate in the compact. However, he encouraged the bill's sponsors to submit a revised version to next year's legislative session.
Utah was the first state to approve entering into such a contract, and a similar bill has been sent to the Arizona governor's desk.
