WATERBORO, Maine (AP) — Police say a 16-year-old girl caught on video beating another girl at Massabesic High School in Waterboro has been summoned to court to face an assault charge.
York County Sheriff William King announced the charge Monday but did not release the girl's name because of her age.
The video made March 9 was posted on social media.
It shows one girl punching another girl on the ground. Several people walk past without intervening.
The 16-year-old victim suffered bruises and scratches and was seen by the school nurse, but did not require hospitalization.
King says the assailant will appear in court sometime in June.
The victim has obtained a protection order prohibiting the alleged assailant from contacting her or being near her except for incidental contact at school.
