COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A convicted killer whose nose was partially bitten off by a dog in a prison program will get $7,500 in damages.
The settlement in 42-year-old Vincent Doan's lawsuit was approved Wednesday in the Ohio Court of Claims.
Doan says the 2013 attack at the Correctional Reception Center left him disfigured, with nerve damage and a hole in his cheek. He says that he didn't provoke the dog and that officials knew it was vicious.
The animal was part of a state prison adopt-a-dog program. The lawsuit didn't say what happened to the dog.
The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/18Uh9o3 ) reports that officials from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction admitted no wrongdoing.
Doan got life in prison for the aggravated murder of his ex-girlfriend in Clinton County. She was never found.
