LAS VEGAS (AP) — LAS VEGAS (AP) — Newly published Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff findings appear to provide wiggle room for adopting rules to open a national nuclear waste dump in the Nevada desert, if decision-makers want to go forward. But Nevada elected officials — including Senators Harry Reid and Dean Heller — say the final two volumes of a key NRC report underscore their argument that the Yucca Mountain project is a bad idea that should remain mothballed.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada officials are reporting that taxable sales statewide were up nearly 7 percent in November, compared with the same month a year earlier. The Department of Taxation says the $313.5 million collected from sales and use taxes represented a 5.7 percent increase year-to-year.

STATELINE, Nev. (AP) — Owners of the new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino at Lake Tahoe say thousands of people crowded onto the property for their much-anticipated grand opening in Stateline earlier this week. The celebration Wednesday night included the smashing of an ice guitar at the hotel-casino with a rock n' roll theme. The property first opened in 1965 as Del Webb's Sahara Tahoe.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The co-pilot of a Delta Air Lines flight from Minneapolis to Las Vegas made an emergency landing at McCarran International Airport after the pilot got locked out of the cockpit by a broken door. The plane landed without incident and pulled up to its designated gate on time. A Delta spokeswoman says commercial aircraft can be landed with one pilot, and Delta crews are trained for such situations.
