FLINT, Mich. (AP) — Mott Community College officials say they will continue doing their own water testing as Flint deals with fixing its drinking water distribution and treatment systems.
The Flint Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1Burkso ) that Scott Jenkins, vice president of Student & Administrative Services, told a Monday meeting of the Board of Trustees in Flint that there's "not a whole lot of convincing people that the water is safe."
Jenkins says tests are planned in the coming week or two.
Flint officials insist the water is safe. The concerns come after Flint officials this month reported that municipal water had elevated levels of a disinfection byproduct called trihalomethane. Some residents say the water gives children skin problems.
Tests were done last year at Mott buildings, but Jenkins says those weren't for trihalomethane.
