RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) — A Utah man accused of killing a suburban New York equestrian and wounding his partner has pleaded guilty to murder and other charges.

Prosecutors on eastern Long Island say Brett Knight pleaded guilty Wednesday in Suffolk County court in Riverhead.

State Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro says he'll sentence Knight to 22 years to life in prison. Prosecutors wanted a sentence of 35 years to life.

Knight is from Midvale, Utah. He admitted the September 2013 fatal shooting of Setauket resident Ross Reisner. Reisner's partner, Kevin Murray, was wounded.

Prosecutors say the killing followed a dispute between Knight and the men. Knight had previously lived in Reisner's Setauket home but was evicted. Knight also suspected the men told a former employer about a baseless wrongful-termination lawsuit.
