LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say one firefighter suffered a knee injury while battling a Las Vegas house fire that may have been sparked by homeless people.
Firefighters say they were called to a vacant house near West Charleston and Rainbow boulevards at about 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning.
Crews suffered a setback when the hydrant they were using broke off the pipe and flew into the air. Nobody was hit.
Officials say the blaze gutted the rear of the house, burned some trees and damaged the interior. Damage was estimated at $75,000.
A neighbor told investigators that he had previously seen a man living and cooking in a hut behind the boarded-up home.
A firefighter with an injured knee was taken to the hospital during the fire.
