HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) — A University of Michigan student from western Michigan has been named a Rhodes scholar.
David Moore of Holland is pursuing a master's degree in mechanical engineering after getting his bachelor's degree in the same field last spring.
Moore will enter Oxford University in England next October with 31 other U.S. men and women. The value of the prestigious scholarship averages about $50,000 per year.
Moore has created a mechanism that allows wheelchair users to use a backpack with greater ease. He's also a former captain of the Michigan men's swim team.
