LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevadans across the state flocked to parades, concerts and other events to honor the nation's veterans.
A Veterans Day parade that bills itself as the largest west of the Mississippi marched through downtown Las Vegas, while another one marking both the holiday and the state's 150th birthday ran through downtown Reno.
Parades were also scheduled in Virginia City and Elko.
A variety of businesses offered free meals or discounts to veterans, including McDonald's, Great Clips and the Golden Corral buffet.
Elected officials including Rep. Steven Horsford, Rep. Dina Titus, Rep. Joe Heck and Sen. Harry Reid used the occasion to highlight the issue of veterans' benefits.
