URBANA, Ill. (AP) — University of Illinois officials say a proposed medical school in Urban would require a commitment of $135 million from donors and more than $100 million from the Carle health care system.
University Chancellor Phyllis Wise tells the (Champaign) News-Gazette (http://bit.ly/1xHN6FS ) Thursday the new financial plan shows the school would be financially viable without state funding. The document lays out a financial plan through the 2024 school year.
Hiring and fundraising for the medical school would start next year and the first 25 students would enroll in 2017. The hospital would be run by a partnership between the university and the local Carle hospital.
Wise says she will present the plan to the Board of Trustees' health care system committee on Monday.
The university already has a medical school in Chicago.
