WASHINGTON (AP) — The D.C. Council will listen to testimony on preparedness for Ebola in the nation's capital.
Friday's oversight hearing by the council's health committee will include testimony from District health officials and others.
Before the hearing, nurses and firefighters will hold a news conference to call on the council and Mayor Vincent Gray to ensure that health care workers and the public are protected from the virus.
Two people have contracted Ebola in the United States. Both are nurses from a Dallas hospital who treated a Liberian man stricken with the virus. That man died, while the nurses remain hospitalized.
Ebola has killed more than 4,800 people in West Africa.
