LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 39-year-old Southern California man was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for his role in a false income tax refund scheme that prosecutors in Las Vegas say defrauded the Internal Revenue Service of almost $800,000.
Judas Godina of Huntington Beach also was ordered Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Kent Dawson to pay restitution to the government.
Godina's attorney, Shawn Perez, declined comment about the case.
Godina pleaded guilty in July to conspiracy to defraud in an agreement that had prosecutors drop 13 other filing false claims charges.
Godina admitted conspiring in 2010 and 2011 with Felix and Walter Guzman to file fraudulent IRS documents to obtain large refunds for customers with whom they split the money.
U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden says the Guzmans are fugitives in the case.
