HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A lawyer for a Pennsylvania Supreme Court justice suspended over his participation in a state government pornographic emails scandal says they're confident he will be cleared and will soon return to the bench.

Attorney Dion Rassias issued a statement Monday after the court announced it was suspending Justice Seamus McCaffery and was referring the matter to the Judicial Conduct Board. Rassias says the court's action isn't a surprise because of a "relentless crusade" by Chief Justice Ron Castille to destroy his client's career and reputation.

The suspension with pay follows disclosure last week by Castille that McCaffery sent or received 234 emails with sexually explicit content or pornography.

McCaffery has apologized. He can't perform judicial duties while the board determines if there are grounds to file a misconduct charge.
