SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (AP) — Authorities say a 42-year-old woman is in critical condition after being shot in the leg while walking on a South Salt Lake sidewalk.

South Salt Lake Police Executive Officer Gary Keller says the shooting happened a little after 6:30 a.m. Friday, while the woman was passing in front of a Mormon church building near 300 East and 3250 South.

Keller says the wounded woman scrambled about 100 yards across the street before she was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery.

Keller says the woman and another witness heard multiple gunshots, but didn't have detailed information about the culprit.

Police say they'll seek out surveillance video from the nearby homes and businesses in hopes of identifying a suspect.
