JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Southern State University is more internationally diverse this year.
The school in Joplin says 193 international students enrolled this year, up from 161 last school year. It's the second consecutive year the number of international students has increased.
The Joplin Globe (http://bit.ly/1u1k4ms ) reports the school's total enrollment of 5,613 is only three less than last year's enrollment.
International admissions coordinator Lora Dean says the school has focused on its international student population with a number of efforts, such as increasing recruitment and strengthening agreements with foreign universities. For example, an agreement with the British Virgin Islands has nearly doubled students from that region at Missouri Southern.
Dean said she hopes to expand Missouri Southern's program agreements with colleges and universities in China and India in the next few years.
