ONEONTA, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island student attending college in upstate New York is in critical condition after suffering a head injury during a fight last weekend.

Police tell The Daily Star of Oneonta (http://bit.ly/1teag74 ) that 21-year-old Tyler Giancola of Westhampton in Suffolk County hit his head on the pavement after being punched in the face early Saturday morning in downtown Oneonta.

Giancola, a student at the State University College at Oneonta, was in critical condition at Albany Medical Center.

Police have charged an 18-year-old man from Bullville in Orange County with assault for punching Giancola. SUNY Oneonta officials say the teen was admitted to the college but didn't enroll.
