BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake complained of shortness of breath and chest pains during the city's Star-Spangled Banner celebration over the weekend and was taken to a hospital for tests.
The mayor's office says the 44-year-old was taken by ambulance to the hospital Saturday night. Spokeswoman Caron Brace says Rawlings-Blake was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon.
In a statement, Rawlings-Blake says she has bronchitis and a respiratory infection.
The celebration of the Star-Spangled Banner's 200th anniversary went on as planned Saturday with speeches by Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi. Rawlings-Blake fell ill shortly after she spoke.
The celebration marked 200 years since the defeat of the British at Baltimore inspired Francis Scott Key to write the words that became the national anthem.
