RENO, Nev. (AP) — After years of wrangling, a package of northern Nevada land bills is finally scheduled for a vote Monday in the U.S. House of Representatives.
One of the seven bills would spur development and create a 48,000-acre wilderness in Lyon County, while another would help ranchers and create a 26,000-acre wilderness area in Humboldt County.
Other measures involve federal land transfers or purchases to benefit Elko County, Carlin, Fernley and the Fallon Naval Air Station
Rep. Mark Amodei, sponsor of six of the measures, says he is optimistic about their chances of passage and looks forward to President Barack Obama signing the legislation.
If approved by the House, the legislation would have to be passed by the Senate before being sent to Obama for his signature.
