HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Henderson police have closed service desks at two satellite police offices until more officers are hired.

The department says desk services are still available from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week including holidays at the main police station on Lead Street behind City Hall.

Desks are closed at the west substation on Green Valley Parkway near the Henderson Multigenerational Center and the north station on Sunset Road east of Boulder Highway.

Department spokeswoman Kathleen Richards says the move puts more officers on the street.

Plans call for resuming satellite desk services next summer, after a new class of police recruits completes academy work and field-training.

Richards says the department has also handled more than 5,000 online police reports since an internet reporting system began in October 2011.
