HURRICANE, Utah (AP) — Police say an 11-month-old girl has died after being left in a hot vehicle in a southern Utah.

Authorities say they responded to reports of an unresponsive baby in a Hurricane neighborhood at about 1 p.m. Friday. Rescuers performed CPR and the baby was airlifted to the Dixie Regional Medical Center, but she later died.

Hurricane police say the girl had been in her car seat in the parked car for "a substantial period of time." Sgt. Brandon Buell says a family member was involved, but details about how the girl was left behind were part of the ongoing investigation.

Temperatures were close to 100 degrees in southern Utah on Friday.
