BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Officials with Louisiana State University and its Paul M. Hebert Law Center say their merger could be complete by Jan. 1.
Law Center Chancellor Jack Weiss says realignment plans are before the American Bar Association, one of two groups that would have to approve the new status. The other is the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Weiss tells The Advocate (http://bit.ly/1tFAGk6 ) he thinks the law school will gain stability by once again becoming part of the main campus, where it is located. It officially became a separate campus, with separate administration, in 1977.
LSU's Board of Supervisors approved the proposal in March.
Weiss says the merger should save money and give students of each campus more services and more classes to choose from, including creation of a prelaw program.
