HYRUM, Utah (AP) — Authorities have identified a 14-year-old boy from American Fork who died in an apparent drowning at Hyrum State Park.
Utah State Parks officials say Tucker Smith was swimming with his friends and cousins Wednesday evening when the group decided to cross the reservoir.
Officials say Tucker began to struggle when he got about 20 feet from the shore, and went below the surface in an area where the water was about 15 to 20 feet deep.
Authorities say Tucker's companions tried to help him, but were unsuccessful.
His body was pulled from the lake late Wednesday with the help of park rangers, Cache County search and rescue personnel and a Utah Highway Patrol dive team.
Rangers say it's important for swimmers to know their limits and stay within those boundaries.
