NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — A report released by Rutgers University calls for making one of the school's governing bodies smaller.
The study on governance at New Jersey's flagship state university was completed last year but made public only Tuesday, a week after State Sen. President Steve Sweeney demanded it be provided to him.
Sweeney is a sponsor of a bill that would expand the university's Board of Governors by giving politicians additional selections of members.
University officials are fighting that move.
The report on the university's governance structure calls for reducing the size of the less powerful Board of Trustees from its current 59 voting members to 36 to 43 and also making committees smaller.
It does not address the size of the Board of Governors.
