FALMOUTH, Ma. (AP) — Helen Bohnenberger of Falmouth had never run more than two miles before she began to train for Monday's Boston Marathon.
The Cape Cod Times reports (http://bit.ly/1mlHiQk) she decided to run the race after hearing an inspirational speech by a Boston College professor after last year's bombings in which he urged the community to fight terrorism by showing up in even bigger numbers this year.
Bohnenberger is a nurse at Cape Cod Hospital and is running for the Mass Mentoring Partnership, a Boston-based organization dedicated to expand mentoring programs for youth in Massachusetts. She has raised more than $3,000 for the team.
She says when she feels like she wants to stop, she thinks of what happened last year and the strength of the first responders and victims and keeps going.
