SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A prominent Utah philanthropist who championed religious, artistic and educational causes has died. Lewena "Tye" Noorda was 90.
Noorda died April 5, according to her obituary in the Daily Herald.
She grew up in Freedom, Utah, and worked as a secretary and model while studying speech and drama at the University of Utah.
She married in 1950 to Raymond Noorda, who went on to chair the Novell software company and lead the firm to major growth.
The couple's many donations included a $30 million gift to create the Ray and Tye Noorda Oral Health Sciences Building at the University of Utah, and money to build the Noorda Theater at Utah Valley University.
A funeral is set for Thursday at the Sunset Heights Stake Center in Orem.
