WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Police in North Carolina say a group of armed men robbed an assisted-living facility, restraining the workers and stealing from the residents' rooms.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports ( http://bit.ly/1ivNTnJ) as many as four men entered the Clare Bridge Retirement Home Wednesday morning, pulled out guns and restrained the employees. Police said the men, who had their faces covered, went into the rooms of the residents and took televisions, jewelry and other items.

A statement from police said one resident had to be treated for a minor injury.

Police have not said how the men entered the facility. They said there were no visible signs of a break-in. Visitors must ring a bell in the foyer, and are allowed in by an employee. Employees must enter a security code to get in.

Brookdale Senior Living Solutions owns the facility, and issued a statement saying it immediately reviewed security protocols "because the safety of our residents and associates is a top priority."

C.D. Williams said his wife lives in the retirement home across from one of the rooms that was broken into. He said his wife is fine, but he's upset that anyone would break into a retirement home.

"It's somebody lower than a snake's belly, and that's pretty low," Williams said. "You don't know where to go to be safe."
