SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — At the urging of officials in three southern Utah counties, the Utah Wildlife Board is pressing federal land managers to deal with an overpopulation of wild horses on the range. Board members have agreed to send a letter to Interior Secretary Sally and BLM state director Juan Palma urging a reduction in the number of horses on the range. The BLM says Utah is home to 3,245 wild horses and burros, well above the "appropriate management level" of 1,956.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — NV Energy is planning to close three of its Reid Gardner coal-fired power plants this year and completely end the use of coal power plants by 2019. In a filing yesterday with the Nevada Public Utilities Commission, NV Energy says plans to make up for the lack of coal power by acquiring two existing gas-generated plants in Southern Nevada and two solar farms.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Health inspectors say they closed Eva Longoria's female-focused steakhouse on the Las Vegas Strip after finding violations of food-temperature regulations. The Southern Nevada Health District reported it closed SHe by Morton's on Wednesday but a woman who answered the phone at the restaurant yesterday said the steakhouse was open for dinner.

MESQUITE, Nev. (AP) — The parent company of the Las Vegas Review-Journal has sold the Mesquite Local News and its website to a company that publishes five other community newspapers in rural Nevada and Arizona. Battle Born Media LLC said yesterday the acquisition in northeast Clark County fits well with company newspapers in Lincoln County, Ely, Eureka and Mineral County in Nevada and Deer Valley in Arizona.
