NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks fell slightly on Tuesday in another quiet day on Wall Street as hesitant investors remained on the sidelines as a slow summer winds down.
On Tuesday:
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 48.49 points, or 0.3 percent, to 18,454.30.
The Standard and Poor's 500 lost 4.26 points, or 0.2 percent, to 2,176.12.
The Nasdaq composite fell 9.34 points, or 0.2 percent, to 5,222.99.
For the week:
The Dow is up 58.90 points, or 0.3 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 7.08 points, or 0.3 percent.
The Nasdaq composite is up 4.07 points, or 0.1 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,029.27 points, or 5.9 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 132.18 points, or 6.5 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 215.58 points, or 4.3 percent.
