LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada jury resumes deliberations today in the trial of a former Las Vegas firefighter accused of hiring a homeless ex-convict to bludgeon his estranged wife to death with a hammer nearly three years ago. A prosecutor said yesterday that testimony showed George Tiaffay (TEE'-uh-fay) manipulated Noel Stevens into killing Shauna Tiaffay in 2012. Stevens has already pleaded guilty. The defense says Stevens is responsible for the crime, and his word can't be trusted.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — An effort to tame the often rowdy gauntlet of street performances that has been turning off some tourists on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas is set to be considered by the City Council today. The city proposal developed with input from the Nevada ACLU and street performers requires street entertainers register with the city and reserve one of 25 to 38 spots along the pedestrian mall.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada officials say an $11 million grant from the federal government could help them reduce suicide attempts and improve school performance among children with mental illnesses. Gov. Brian Sandoval and director Richard Whitley of the state Department of Health and Human Services announced the four-year grant yesterday.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Lawyers for Sands China Ltd. are relying on well-known attorney Alan Dershowitz in arguing for the dismissal of a wrongful termination lawsuit being pursued against the company in a southern Nevada courtroom because it's registered in the Cayman Islands and does business in China, not Las Vegas. The Nevada Supreme Court did not rule yesterday.
