WEISER, Idaho (AP) — A Washington County woman has been infected with the mosquito-borne illness West Nile virus, marking the first confirmed human case in Idaho this year. KTVB-TV reports the woman, who is in her 60s, first noticed symptoms at the end of June. She did not require hospitalization and is still recovering from the illness. Mosquitoes have tested positive for the virus in nine counties.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — An Arizona man accused of shooting at northern Idaho police officers on Interstate 90 last year has accepted a pretrial settlement. The Coeur d'Alene Press reports that 25-year-old Marcus Rael entered an Alford plea Friday to four counts of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, admitting no guilt but acknowledging that prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him. Prosecutors say Rael refused to stop when Coeur d'Alene police officers tried to pull him over in 2014 for drunk driving.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho horse breeders could end up empty-handed due to a dispute about how the money collected from lucrative betting machines should be distributed. The Idaho Racing Commission discussed the topic yesterday, but delayed making a decision until October. There is a disagreement over how much the breeder fund should be split between the thoroughbred and quarter horse accounts. If it's not solved by December, the money automatically goes to public schools.

CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — An Oregon man who taught at a church in Idaho is spending at least a year and a half in prison for having a sexual relationship with a teenage student. Police arrested 24-year-old Casey Dyck in February. Canyon County prosecutors say he had sexual contact with the girl at his home and the church. He was ordered to register as a sex offender.
