UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — In the competition for the biggest spenders, casinos are known to pull out the stops with comped hotel rooms, meals and rebates for a percentage of their losses. But some dealers say efforts to satisfy and retain the players go much further, with casinos tolerating abuse and extending courtesies that test the integrity of the games. Shane Kaufmann, a vice president for a branch of the Transport Workers Union in Las Vegas that represents thousands of casino dealers, said rules are frequently ignored at high-stakes tables.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Prison officials say a 63-year-old inmate who had been jailed previously for sexually assaulting a person older than 65 has died at the state prison in Carson City. James Besette was first imprisoned in 1988 when he was sentenced to life with parole for sexual assault and another 10 years for stealing a car. He was paroled in 2009 but returned to prison in 2012 and was serving up to 6 years for coercion.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Las Vegas officer shot in the face Sunday night by a man with a pellet gun is 28-year-old Keith McIntyre. McIntyre was treated and released the same night at University Medical Center. The Clark County Coroner says the man shot and killed by officers was Bryan Keith Day.

CHARLESTON, West Virginia (AP) — Authorities say a man killed in West Virginia by an escort he met online was stopped, interviewed or investigated by police in up to 20 states — including Nevada — for possible links to unsolved disappearances or slayings. Police have said Neal Falls of Oregon rented a room in Henderson when four prostitutes went missing. Detectives say they're checking any possible Falls connection to the 2005 disappearance of 21-year-old Lindsay Harris of Las Vegas.
