SWEET BRIAR, Va. (AP) — Sweet Briar College's new board of directors has elected its first slate of officers.
The News & Advance (http://bit.ly/1H6JFwl ) reports that the board met for the first time on campus Monday. The meeting follows a change in leadership with members of the board that voted to close the school having resigned.
Teresa Pike Tomlinson, the mayor of Columbus, Georgia, is the new chairwoman of the school's board of directors.
New President Phillip Stone says board members elected retired president of Birmingham-Southern College Charles Krulak as vice chairman and Loyola law professor Georgene Vairo as secretary. Both Vairo and Tomlinson are alumna.
During the meeting, Stone said the board discussed several items, including organization of the board into committees and student enrollment for the upcoming school year.
