MILWAUKEE (AP) — Student government leaders at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Marquette University are urging Milwaukee County bus drivers and the transit system to come to terms on a labor agreement.
The student leaders say a 2-day strike by bus drivers has impacted tens of thousands of students who need the bus to get to summer classes. In a letter to the transit system and drivers, the student government organizations say missing multiple days of a shorter summer class can be costly. And for some students it may be the last class they need to graduate. Failure could result in another semester of school.
A strike by 750 members of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 998 began early Wednesday. The union says drivers plan to return to work Saturday.
