OGDEN -- A month after an Ogden man was found brutally murdered in his bed, police have made an arrest.

Prosecutors filed murder charges Tuesday against convicted felon Robert Lee McCullar in connection with the death of Filberto Robles Bedolla, also known as Giliberto or Jesus Sanchez.

Weber County Attorney Dee Smith said 49-year-old McCullar was taken into custody Monday after investigators gathered sufficient evidence to make an arrest.

Filberto Robles Bedolla was found murdered inside his Ogden home Dec. 22, 2009.

"The information we have is that the suspect in this case may have felt disrespected, and that was the reason why he committed the crime," Smith said.

On Dec. 22, Bedolla's brother found his body in their Ogden apartment, on 26th Street and Adams Avenue. A probable cause affidavit says police got a tip that a prostitute and McCullar were at the victim's apartment that day.

The affidavit also says police conducted surveillance of conversations between the two in the Weber County Jail and in a hotel room. It says during a conversation in a hotel room, McCullar "admits to cutting open the throat of the victim with a piece of glass."

Smith said McCullar and Bedolla lived in the same neighborhood and had common acquaintances. In the affidavit it says McCullar told the prostitute that Bedolla should never have called him a name and spit in his face.

Prosecutors also charged McCullar with possession of a firearm by a restricted person. Court records show McCullar has a criminal history that includes forgery and attempted assault by a prisoner.

McCullar is also facing more charges for another violent crime that happened last month. Prosecutors said he assaulted a woman in a motel room in Ogden. The woman told the motel manager, who then called police.

"They found she had a small cut on her arm. They found a broken mirror in the room, and they located a knife on the defendant," Smith said.

Prosecutors say McCullar will face assault charges in that case.
